EXPLORATION OF COLOR with Shirley Paden ~ September 17th and 24th

Join renowned designer and best-selling author Shirley Paden as she explores color knitting in two classes – Intarsia and Stranded Color Knitting.  Take one class or both and master the techniques used to “paint” your knitting canvas with colorwork.

  • One class - $90 + materials
  • Both classes - $150 + materials

Saturday, September 17, 2016

9 am – 1 pm

Intarsia has often been called painting with yarn.  This technique enables you to introduce areas of color in any shape or size into your knitting. In this master class, you’ll learn to read a color chart, learn and practice the stranding and weaving technique, learn and practice duplicate stitch, and make finger bobbins so that you can create “knitted pictures.”

**Basic knitting skills. Experience following written patterns and working with pattern charts and working different stitch patterns helpful.**

Saturday, September 24, 2016

9 am – 1 pm

The secret behind knitting the beautiful designs in stranded colorwork is in the stranding. Using two colors in a row, but only one at a time, the knitter is able to create designs, or motifs, in the knitted fabric. Students practice the stranding-and-weaving technique working across both RS and WS rows while knitting with both hands, and carrying a different color of yarn in each hand.

**Basic knitting skills. Experience following written patterns and working with pattern charts and working different stitch patterns helpful.**

Sunday, October 30, 2016

BE A BETTER KNITTER with Patty Lyons ~ December 17th

Join Patty Lyons as she helps you improve your knitting skills and fix mistakes.  Improve Your Knitting Technique and Knitting ER: Tragedies & Treatments will be classes to boost your confidence and skills and face your knitting fearlessly.

One class - $90 + materials
Both classes - $150 + materials

Saturday, December 17, 2016

9 am – 12 noon

You know how to knit, but do you know how to build a perfect fabric? There’s always room for improvement! Does your knitting “row out” (your purl stitch looser than your knit stitch), are you looking for a better way to control your gauge? What about alternative ways to tension your yarn when working with stiff yarn or slippery yarn? Explore ways to improve your knitting technique by looking at the most important fundamentals, like the job of the left needle tip and the right needle shaft, stitch sizing, and even the correct exit path of your stitch. Explore edge stitches, cast on and bind offs and a huge array of knitting tips. The last part of the class will be open for all knitting questions (that you have put in the “bag of why”), so come with your questions and let’s explore our knitting.

**Basic knitting skills, including simple increases and decreases.  Recognize the knit and purl stitch and be able to work them in a pattern.**

Saturday, December 17, 2016

1 pm - 4 pm

It’s happened to everyone. The one thing that can stop our knitting, and cause us to put our projects into a time out – MISTAKES. Never fear simple mistakes again, as you learn how to take control of your knitting. We’ll learn how to read your knitting and master the basics that every knitter needs to know, how to unknit, how to pick up a dropped stitch in stockinette, how to fix garter, how to fix a mistake in a stitch pattern such as rib or seed, and how to fix your stitch mounts to avoid twisted stitches. We’ll also learn a few fancy tricks like picking up a dropped stitch at the end of your row or using a small needle to safely rip down to. Everyone makes mistakes; now learn that it doesn’t have to ruin your knitting

**Basic knitting skills, including simple increases and decreases. Recognize the knit and purl stitch and be able to work them in a pattern.**
