String Yarns’ Favorite Holiday Movies!
Whatever holiday you celebrate, there is one commonality shared among all families as they gather together this season: the classic holiday movie. Popcorn is popped and buttered, cozy clothes become the uniform, and knitters have their projects at the ready for the annual viewing of everyone’s favorite holiday movie.
We’re sure you’ll recognize (and already love) our String staff favorite holiday movie picks. And just to keep things a little interesting, we’ve paired some of our picks with String projects. These are knits you can work on without having to look down… although given how well we know these movies, looking up isn’t all that necessary either!
It’s A Wonderful Life
"I love It's a Wonderful Life with Jimmy Stewart and Clarence, the angel. One of my favorite quotes comes from Zuzu. At the end of the movie she famously says, "Every time a bell rings an angel gets their wings!" – Lisa H.
A Christmas Carol
“The holiday movie I most enjoy watching with my family is the 1951 version of A Christmas Carol with Alastair Sim. It must be this version. The days of 'family movie night' are long gone, but once between Christmas and New Years, the 5 of us light the fireplace and curl up in front of the TV with a few big bowls of popcorn to watch this classic.” – Joan F.
String’s Pick: Classica Bulky Turban
Channel your inner Lana Turner in The Postman Always Rings Twice with the Classica Bulky Turban. Turbans were hugely popular in the cinema of the 30s, 40s, and 50s, and thankfully the look is back in style!
The Muppet Christmas Carol/A Charlie Brown Christmas
Holiday stories are often rife with moral lessons, so it’s great when a little humor and levity add to the mix.
“A Charlie Brown Christmas and The Muppets Christmas Carol have always been favorites in my family!” – Whitney S.
“I live for The Vince Guaraldi Trio’s jazzy Christmas soundtrack in A Charlie Brown Christmas—it really sets up the season for me. I get sick of most Christmas music pretty quickly, but I’ve been guilty of listening to that soundtrack long after Christmas is over.” - Flossie
String’s Pick: Lisa’s Sampler Blanket
Charlie Brown’s Linus never went anywhere without his security blanket, and we’re certain you know a little one in need of similar comfort. Lisa’s Sampler Blanket knit in String Classica or Filatura di Crosa Zara 8 utilizes different stitches for a fun but easy project!
This movie proves all it takes to save Christmas is a generous helping of wonderful music and some solid dancers. Even if you haven’t seen this movie, you know the eponymous song made famous by Bing—it’s one of the best-selling singles of all time.
“Bing Crosby, Danny Kay, Rosemary Clooney, and Vera Ellen are wonderful to watch in White Christmas. They put on a fantastic holiday show in a beautiful inn in Vermont, and of course, it finally snows at the end.” – Cynthia C.
String’s Pick: Snow White Cowl
All your Christmases will be white with the Snow White Cowl, which pairs String Classica Bulky with Furaz Rabbit Fur—you’ll wish you could get stuck at a gorgeous Vermont lodge with this soft and cuddly cowl wrapped around your neck!
The String Yarn’s staff wishes you and yours a very happy and healthy holiday season—we can’t wait to see you in the New Year!
